Dr. Gwen Parker Ames

Associate Minister

Dr. Gwen Parker Ames was licensed as a Minister at St. Paul Baptist Church in 2007. She describes herself as a servant leader committed to actively forging collaborations in her community and beyond to spread the gospel and encourage others to walk in faith. The scripture 2 Corinthians 2: 15, ”For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those being saved and those who are perishing” inspires her.

Dr. Ames is an educator, published author, playwright and filmmaker.  She holds a doctorate degree from Teachers College, Columbia University and has completed religious study at Princeton Theological Seminary and New York Theological Seminary. In addition to her role as Associate Minister for Youth and Families Dr. Ames is also the Associate Dean of Student Success at Nyack Christian College.

Her leadership and passion for mission work has opened pathways for engaging religious communities in closing the achievement gap for children failing to progress; mentoring twenty children affected by Hurricane Katrina to move from crisis to college and establishing evening Cafes for persons experiencing hunger in 2011 that now serve 10,000 annually.

Dr. Ames believes the double joy of doing mission work comes in sharing the load of mission work with others for the greater good.
